If youโve ever felt like your website is stuck in the past, overwhelming to manage, or just not representing your brand anymore, youโre not alone. Bestselling author, podcaster, and speaker Tricia Goyer felt the same way.
After six years, her website had become a tangled mess of outdated content, inconsistent branding, and a clunky backend in the Genesis framework that made even small updates a hassle for her team. Thatโs where my VIP One Day Website Overhaul came in — this project took us two full days because we reworked her branding first.
Hereโs how we turned her site into a modern, high-performing, and beautifully branded online homeโall in just two days.
The Challenge: Outdated, Inconsistent & Difficult to Manage
Triciaโs website had been managed by multiple virtual assistants over the years, each adding their own tweaks without a cohesive strategy. The result? A disjointed look, a slow website bogged down by unnecessary plugins, and a navigation system that didnโt highlight her most important content.
Key Issues We Identified:
- Inconsistent Branding โ Her logo, color scheme, and graphics didnโt align with her evolving brand identity.
- Hard-to-Manage Website โ The Genesis theme required coding knowledge, forcing her team to use a page builder workaround that slowed everything down.
- Cluttered Navigation & Site Bloat โ Her site still featured homeschooling content she no longer needed, while key areas like her courses and podcast were buried. Excessive plugins further slowed performance.
Clientโs Initial Frustration:
โMy website feels messy and hard to update. The branding is inconsistent, and my team struggles to make changes without help.โ
TRICIA’S SITE BEFORE:
The Solution: A VIP 2-Day Website Overhaul
Tricia needed a fast and effective transformationโso we tackled everything in two focused VIP Days. While our One Day Website doesn’t guarantee that everything for the website redesign will be completed in a day, with two days we were able to tackle a majority of the pages because we only spent half a day on the branding and logo.

Day 1: Branding Refresh โ A Cohesive & Modern Look
A fresh, modern brand identity was the first step. Tricia shared ChatGPT-generated vision board images, which helped shape the new look. I thought it was especially helpful for this because it gave me the exact colors and imagery ideas she wanted – which made creating the vision board and new logo design go very quickly and allowed more time for converting actual pages on her website design to the new look.
- New Color Palette โ We moved away from the outdated purple, teal, and gold to a soft, inviting mix of sage green, orange, cream, and black.
- 3 Logo Options โ Tricia’s old logo was square and didn’t lend itself to different layouts. We created 2 different layouts in varying colorways for her to use across her social and website.
- Updated Typography โ Swapped out clunky fonts for a soft serif for titles and a clean sans-serif for body text, making the site more readable and aesthetically pleasing.
- Updated Client Photography โ Tricia provided new photos from a recent photoshoot which really helped tie it all together. In the event that she didn’t have any recent photos, we might have suggested an AI virtual photoshoot.
Day 2: Website Overhaul โ Converting from Genesis to Kadence
Switching from the Genesis framework (which relies on PHP templates and legacy widgets) to Kadence (a block-based theme for WordPress) required a structured approach:
- Theme Migration โ Installed and activated Kadence, replacing the Genesis child theme while ensuring core functionality remained intact.
- Content Reorganization โ Since Genesis used widget areas and hardcoded templates, we migrated content into the WordPress block editor, restructuring layouts with Kadence blocks.
- Navigation & Menu Adjustments โ Removed outdated content, improved menu hierarchy, and featured Triciaโs courses, podcast, and shop more prominently.
- Page Template Redesign โ Used Kadenceโs built-in templates and block patterns to rebuild key pages with a modern, flexible layout.
- Performance Enhancements โ Eliminated eight unnecessary plugins, optimized site efficiency, and leveraged Kadenceโs lightweight framework for improved speed.
Why Page Speed Matters for Google (and You)
Google prioritizes fast websites because speed improves the user experience. Think about itโhow long do you wait for a website to load before getting frustrated and clicking away? A slow site not only loses visitors but also ranks lower in search results because Google assumes itโs not providing a good experience.
Faster websites:
- Keep visitors engaged longer
- Improve search rankings
- Increase conversions (whether sales, sign-ups, or downloads)
Results in Numbers:
- Page Speed Upgrade โ GT Metrix score improved from D (69%) to A (95%).
- Faster Load Times โ A snappier site means better user experience and SEO.
- Increased Engagement โ Key content (like courses and podcasts) is now front and center, leading to more interaction.
The Transformation: A High-Performing, Beautifully Branded Website
The end result was a sleek, user-friendly, and strategically designed website that not only looks amazing but also functions effortlessly for Triciaโs team.
Key Wins:
- Faster Page Load Times โ No more sluggish performance.
- Easier Website Management โ Her team can now update pages without coding headaches.
- Consistent Branding โ A cohesive look across her website, social media, and marketing materials.
- Higher Engagement โ Early feedback shows more interaction with her courses and podcasts.
